The northern lights attracts tourists from all corners of our world. Most people don’t realize that this amazing light phenomena is just a visible part of what we call space weather.
Space weather can have a significant impact on society, especially in the Arctic. This side event provides a clear overview of how solar storms and geomagnetic disturbances can affect power grids, satellites, communication, and transport, and how different stakeholders manage risk and preparedness. The event aims to raise awareness of space weather as a potential hazard and promote Nordic and circumpolar cooperation, and national awareness and forecasting. The event concludes with a summary emphasizing collaboration, real-time data, and national preparedness, while encouraging ongoing dialogue and concrete initiatives among Arctic nations.
