Dear Norwegian research community,

The European Space Agency (ESA) has big plans for the robotic and human exploration of the Moon and Mars in the next decade. ESA will be visiting Norway to tell us more about the research opportunities this brings within their exploration programme E3P, and how Norwegian scientists can take part in this big international cooperation that will bring humans to the Moon and Mars.ESA will present  research opportunities stemming from the E3P programme, which includes

  • (biological) effects of space radiation
  • human and biological aspects of space exploration
  • microgravity or reduced microgravity
  • material sciences
  • technology demonstrators
  • lunar surface research (planetary material, astronomical observations, fundamental physics, heliophysics, …) internal and external research opportunities on the international space station (ongoing Norwegian examples: internal: ANITA, WAPS. External: AIS, ASIM), and in moon orbit
  • Moon and mars planetology

and more

So far, Norway has been participating at a rather low level in this programme.

The Norwegian Space Centre is proposing that Norway increase our participation in robotic and human exploration from 2020. It is important for us to understand the potential benefits for Norwegian scientists within the E3P programme, as well as how ongoing research in Norway could benefit ESA. We therefore invite you - the research community - to join us in this workshop, and to share with us your views and inputs on the Norwegian potential in a round table discussion.
